Germination Soils
Many forms of soil one may come across in the early stages is germination soil. Germination soil is basically regular soil that is kept somewhat clean and has added micronutrients.
Typically the soil is sifted and will not contain any sort of composting. This is because seeds don’t really need food, just water. Ordinarily loam foam has a Ph of 7 which is really good for growing but it is important to know at this stage of the plant’s life the seed needs more nitrogen than phosphorus or potassium.
So look for soils with N-P-K ratios where N is greater than or equal to each of the other elements. Even ratios like 5-1-1 and 8-4-4 are good for germination. However the lower the N-P-K the better because like i previously seeds do not need food so there really is no need to add them.
In some cases adding them to this stage can actually hurt them if there is too much in the soil but this is rare and typically is due to over treating the seeds. This stage you just have to let the seed do it’s thing.
This method has about the same success rate usually resulting in 7 or 8 seeds germinating.
