Lighting For Seedlings

Now it is important to know that even though seedlings do not need light until their first leaf the placement of your lighting still affects its growth.

In essence window light is strong enough for them at this point in their life however the seedlings will stretch towards whatever their light source is. Since this behavior exists it is important to keep your light  closer to the seedlings while they are sprouting. It is also important to note that one you don’t want to waste electricity and two you don’t want to waste that much light on seedlings.

To avoid these, one should use low wattage fluorescents or low wattage LEDs. To be honest light at this stage I feel is underappreciated because yes it is true that the seedlings don’t need as much light but it becomes especially important in terms of determining a good growth rate in order to make sure your plants develop enough to support themselves.

It will also determine in which direction your plant grows because they will grow directly towards the light source. One final note is that low wattage HID lights will be too strong for your seedlings.
