Flowering Plant Lighting
After the development of calyx the plants have finally reached the stage where they can start producing flowers. To start this process you need to change the photoperiod, meaning the time frame in which the plants receive light, to a 12 hour on 12 hour off cycle.
During this stage most growers move away from fluorescents and stick with LEDs due to the temperature problem I have talked about in other articles. Unless you are setting up a professional grade grow operation then LEDs are definitely my light of choice.
Though it is important to note that more professional growers will move to the high pressure sodium HIDs. This tends to confuse newer growers because they think that you need to start where you want to end where when it comes to growing, starting small doesn’t lose you that much money since most equipment doesn’t lose much value over time.
Meaning, even if you start small you can recoup the costs of the equipment when you feel ready to enlarge your process. This also means you can convert your smaller set up to just maintain clones and seedlings because they are not as needy when it comes to lighting.
