Dealing With Birds In Your Grow Space

Birds can be troubling at times for outdoor growers. Birds will vary on which species you have to deal with but all follow similar guidelines when it comes to dealing with them.

They will mainly target the seeds which can affect future crops you plan to grow. Dealing with this is relatively simple and nothing we haven’t seen before. First step would be to add in some scarecrows into your fields. Birds are often wary of larger creatures so making it seem like one is on guard at all times can prevent them from raiding your plants.

If that doesn’t work you can try adding large shiny/ reflective materials to  catch their attention. Birds in general are attracted to shiny objects and serve as a pretty useful distraction.

My last suggestion would be to try to come to terms with the birds and install a bird feeder. Animals will always choose the path of least resistance when it comes to getting resources. Setting up a bird feeder will teach the birds that there is a food supply for them that requires less work for them. To me the bird feeder is my favorite option  but should be used in conjunction with either or both of the other two options.

For example, setting the shiny objects around the bird feeder will catch the birds attention from afar and then when they realize there’s food will come and stay away from your plant’s seeds. This does however create birds that expect food to be there but as long as you keep on top of it everything should go smoothly. Make sure if you have the bird feeder it is large enough to deal with the amount of birds in your area. You can also try setting up multiple depending on the size of your fields.
