Dealing With Ant Infestation In Your Grow Space
When it comes to pests there are a lot to look out for. For this article I will be going through common pests that you may find in your grow space and explain how to take care of them.
The first one I would like to talk about is ants. Ants typically scavenge the lands for anything they can find. In terms of cannabis their main targets will be the roots and will harvest the plants honeydew. This will decrease the plant’s yield because it is basically breaking up the supply line.
Not only are they directly destructive to your plants, ant infestations will also attract aphids. Due to their unique relationships the plants will act as bodyguards for these critters while collecting honeydew. The aphids main target is the leaves and because the plants are protecting them the infestation will only get worse if left untreated.
Ant colonies are notoriously difficult to get rid of completely but don’t lose hope. Cinnamon is well known for being a great repellant for these critters. If used correctly ants should stay away and if they get too close often die due to the cinnamon.
You will need to find where they are nesting and either sprinkle the cinnamon on or water it into the soil. This will typically not get rid of the infestation but is very useful for keeping them away from your plants. You can also introduce natural predators such as frogs and slow worms into your garden.
They will hunt down those little critters and force them away from your crops. If that isn’t enough you can grease the stems of the plants and create a moat around them. The ants will not be able to cross the water and even if they somehow find a way over the greased stems will prevent them from being able to get to the areas they want.
