The Two Types Of Hydroponics

There are two main types of hydroponics which are medium cultures and solution cultures. Medium cultures as the name implies require a growing medium such as rockwool, clay pellets, perlite, or vermiculite.

I personally prefer rockwool but i do have to admit it is quite a mess to handle and kind of feels like an old sponge.

Growing this way will always produce longer roots no matter the strain. The medium actually serves as a kind of sponge for nutrients and water.

This allows the plant to have a reserve without feeling like it needs to suck it all up to breathe. Overall whatever your medium you choose this will act as your soil and should be treated with the same respect.

The other type of hydroponic is solution cultures and as the name implies is based around keeping a tank filled with your nutrient solution.

There are a few ways to accomplish this but the one I’ll focus on involves keeping the solution in a tank. You then have your cannabis on some sort of floatation platform such as Styrofoam.

Keep an air stone in the solution so air can reach their roots. Through this process the roots will be completely submerged and the roots tend to be weaker than when growing with a medium.

However, the solution culture tends to have better results. Solution culture does require more attention though making it a bit more difficult than growing with a medium.
